Tweet.
Value friends and family.
Read work in your field.
Read work outside your field.
Comment insightfully on other blogs.
Research current/future novels.
Research agents.
Research publishers.
Attend conferences (for career).
Attend conferences (for writing).
Critique others' writing.
Write some more.

  3. Great list! I have a cartoon from the NEW YORKER in my office. The caption is James Joyce's Refrigerator. It shows a refrigerator with the following "to do" list posted on it:
    1. Call Bank
    2. Dry Cleaner
    3. Forge in the smithy of my soul the uncreated conscience of my race.
    4. Call Mom.

    #3 says it all. Now, if only. . .
